The Bar Plan first entered the court bond market as an agent in 1997.
After indentifying a real need for a knowledgeable court bond underwriter in the market, The Bar Plan Surety and Fidelity Company was incorporated and become an underwriter for this product.
The Surety Company was incorporated in Missouri on August 14, 1998. It issued its first policy in April of 1999. The court bond program has expanded to 49 states.

It was incorporated in Missouri on August 14, 1998 under Chapter 379 of the Missouri Revised Statutes. The Surety Company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Bar Plan Mutual Insurance Company (“Mutual Company”), a mutual insurance company also located at 1717 Hidden Creek Court, St. Louis, MO 63131. The Mutual Company was incorporated in Missouri on November 21, 1985 as a Chapter 383 company and converted to a Chapter 379 company on October 4, 1990. As a Mutual company, it is owned by its policyholders.
The Mutual Company is the ultimate parent company of The Bar Plan Group of Companies. TBP Holding Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mutual Company. TBP Holding Company owns 100% of the stock of The Bar Plan Insurance Agency, Inc., and The Bar Plan Surety and Fidelity Company.
